Nicholas Blain MA FCA FCSI CFA
Principal

Nicholas graduated with a maths degree from Queens’ College, Cambridge in 1990. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse (now PwC) then joined Ernst & Young as a management consultant, specialising in emerging markets banking sectors. Nicholas spent a few years in investment banking with ING Barings before realising that teaching financial markets was as much fun as working in them.

He has taught classes for financial markets and the CFA® Program since 2001, including three years based in Singapore, and has presented in places as diverse as Johannesburg, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Zurich and Dublin.

As chief executive of Quartic he is proud to have built a business founded on quality of tuition and excellence of client service.

Outside class Nicholas is treasurer of an investment partnership, successfully disproving theories of market efficiency. His guru is Warren Buffett, who is on a distant corner of Nicholas’ family tree.

Friederike Johannis MMath CFA

Friederike graduated from the University of Warwick with a First in Mathematics, and then passed the IMC and all three levels of the CFA exam on her first attempt. She has extensive teaching experience both at school and university level.

Prior to joining Quartic, she worked at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management as a private banker in the Financial Institutions Team, advising high net worth financial professionals on their portfolios.

Outside of work, Friederike loves to travel the world and has recently discovered a love for obstacle racing.

Duncan Hughes MSc

Duncan Hughes has 25 years experience in financial markets, gained in senior positions at leading financial institutions including Rothschild and Threadneedle Asset Management. His experience spans all major asset classes including fixed income, equity and property investment. Responsibilities have included investment strategy formulation, portfolio construction, treasury management, risk analysis and the use of derivatives for position taking and risk management. In his early career Duncan was a quantitative analyst and was the recipient of the Institute of Investment Management and Research (IIMR, the precursor to the CFA (UK) organisation) prize for Statistics and Financial Mathematics. Through board level positions at specialist boutique finance houses he has gained considerable experience of alternative asset classes, structured products and derivatives.

Duncan was a member of the CFA UK’s examination panel for over ten years, having had particular responsibility for the Fixed Interest and Economics subject areas for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) qualification. He has been a guest lecturer at the London Financial Academy and on MSc Finance courses at London Metropolitan University. Duncan has published a book on asset management and recently authored an article on risk management for Bloomsbury Press.

A lawn tennis tour professional in his youth, Duncan now spends his leisure time participating in, and recovering from, Triathlon events.

Dianne Ramdeen MSc FCCA CFA CCIBS

Dianne has been a Financial Training Instructor since 2003 and has both designed and delivered training programmes for clients across the retail banking, investment banking and corporate finance sectors.  Specifically, she has provided training on a range of accountancy and financial services programmes including CFA, ICAEW Corporate Finance, ACCA, IMC, CISI and the Chartered Banker Diploma.

Not only is Dianne a CFA charterholder and a fellow of the ACCA, she also has an MSc. in Accounting and is a certificated member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. In addition, Dianne has successfully completed the IMC, the CISI’s Certificate in Corporate Finance and Certificate in Securities.

Prior to her career in financial training, Dianne worked as a management accountant for a private training company and provided business consultancy services to SMEs.   Dianne has also, in the past, held a senior editorial role with a company involved in the publication of textbooks relevant to the ACCA qualification where she acted as a subject matter expert on Financial Management and Corporate Finance and gained insight into the creation of learning materials to meet a variety of learning styles.

In addition, Dianne has written articles for a London based magazine aimed at students studying towards the ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA qualifications, has been interviewed by Corporate Financier magazine, has acted as a panel member for a Guardian debate on forecasting for SMEs and made media comments to londonlovesbusiness.com on the effect of Brexit on the value of the pound.

Dianne recently discovered a hidden talent for cake decorating so when she is not in the classroom she can be found creating 3D cakes, sugar flowers and life like figurines of her friends and family.

Frank Sekulovic BA BSc

Frank has worked in Business Development since 1994, within a variety of insurance and financial services organisations.
He has extensive UK and international experience working in several European, Middle Eastern and African countries.
At Quartic he is responsible for developing new revenue streams, both in the UK and internationally.
During his leisure time he enjoys playing golf, reading books and, being a former pilot, he enjoys attending air shows and other aviation events in the UK and across Europe.

Ricardo Silva MBA CMgr MCMI

Ricardo is a Master of Business Administration, as well as a Chartered Manager and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute, holding Leadership and Business Management degrees from the University of East Anglia, University of Suffolk and University of Essex. Before joining Quartic, Ricardo was involved with Start-up Business Development and Real-Estate Management.

Ricardo believes in constant personal development and feels that continuous learning is essential for his professional satisfaction. His biggest professional ambition is to take businesses to the next level.

Ricardo is originally from Portugal where he studied IT and Enterprise Management, whilst being a Lifeguard, a Sports Instructor, and a Primary School Teacher.

On his spare time Ricardo enjoys travelling, photography, cinema, and actively practicing sports such as Football, Swimming, Cycling, and Taekwondo.

Willard-Hans Shongue BSc

Hans holds a BSc in Banking and Finance from the University of Buea in Cameroon, and he has over 7 years experience working in logistics and distribution industries in Cameroon and the UK.

At Quartic, he is in the Operations Team and is responsible for the virtual classroom live lecture recordings and builds databases to support the Marketing Team.

During his leisure time, he enjoys listening to good music, travelling and playing volleyball at a competitive level.

Elohor Emmanuel Itoje CFA

Emmanuel graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria and has been awarded various professional accounting qualifications by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

He began his teaching career 2002 and has taught at different levels ranging from secondary, undergraduate and professional .

His career moved into finance in 2005 he became a CFA charterholder in 2009 .

Emmanuel is also an avid investor in stocks specializing in emerging markets and has started an investment club with like minds using principles of Benjamin Graham and investment tactics of Warren Buffett.

Adam Moon BSc CFA

Adam has worked in the City for over twelve years helping a wide variety of clients manage their investment portfolios. He has extensive experience in investment research, asset allocation and portfolio management. He has helped manage investment portfolios for high net worth and charity clients at Mazars Wealth Management as well as managing discretionary multi-asset fund of funds at Metlife/Alico. His career began at Aon Consulting advising corporate pension scheme trustees on investment issues.

In addition to being a CFA charterholder Adam has passed the IMC and holds a BSc in Management Science from the University of Manchester. In his spare time Adam is a keen traveller and sportsman trying to master the arts of golf, football, cricket and snowboarding .

Vijay Tohani MSc CFA

Vijay has over twenty years investment experience in Global Asset Management and has worked in London, Edinburgh and Singapore. He has extensive knowledge of equity investments in Emerging Markets; as well as the senior PM for First State Investments he was and the CIO for Samsung Asset Management in Singapore. Now that he is back in London, Vijay spends much of his time as a Private and Angel Investor in the listed and non-listed equity space.

Vijay holds a degree in Accounting with Computing from the University of Ulster and he also has an MSc in International Finance from London School of Economics.

Yukun Shi PhD CFA

Yukun recently finished his PhD in Finance from Durham University, after gaining a master of Finance and Investment with Distinction from the University of Nottingham.

He completed all three levels of the CFA exam with good marks by 2012, and was awarded the Charter in August 2014. Yukun is also an Associate of the Higher Education Academy in the UK

Yukun has extensive classroom teaching experience at postgraduate level in universities. Before pursuing his PhD, he worked as Head of Carbon Markets Research in a green energy company for three years.

Outside work, Yukun plays football and badminton and loves reading poetry.

Stephen Coe MA

After gaining his MA in Engineering at Cambridge University, Stephen joined KPMG and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1984, before moving to KPMG’s Management Consulting firm, specialising in writing financial forecasts using a variety of spreadsheets. During this time he realised the importance of setting work out clearly and how difficult that can be with spreadsheets.

Having developed his own spreadsheet methodology and applied it to numerous acquisition and other scenarios, Stephen was asked to lecture it to other spreadsheet users and to clients, including Schroders, SBC Warburg, Hambros, NM Rothschild and NatWest.

Stephen left KPMG to join UBS Warburg’s Education Department at the start of 1996, and was there for two years before leaving to set up as an independent management consultant, specialising in educating and advising people about financial modelling.

His clients in this role have included: Colliers CRE, KPMG, Baker Tilly, Grant Thornton, UBS, Morgan Stanley, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, Merrill Lynch Asset Management, Close Brothers Corporate Finance, Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland, Cinven, Rawlinson & Hay and the BBC.

Paul Meadows ASIP CFA Institute

Paul has fifteen years experience on the Buyside of the Market, working in both Institutional and High Net Worth Portfolio Management (including Royal Insurance Asset Management and Lloyds Private Banking). His roles ranged from managing the UK Equity component of a larger Portfolio on behalf of a Scandinavian Insurer through to Heading up the Global Research effort in London for a Bermudan-domiciled Private Bank.

Paul also has ten years experience designing and delivering both Public and tailored in-house training programmes, with audiences ranging from Graduates and new starters, through to one-to-one coaching of Senior Managers. He has delivered programmes on Wealth & Portfolio Management, Equity Valuation, Technical Analysis & Hedge Funds in the Middle East, Asia, Emerging and Western Europe, Russia and South Africa as well as London, for blue chip Investment Banks, Fund Managers, Regulators, Hedge Funds, Private Banks and Law Firms.
