Yes you can defer your exam, though this is usually not advised as you may need to study again a large amount of the content you have already covered. There is a cost of US$449 to CFA Institute which will allow a deferral of up to 12 months. Emergency deferrals (e.g. for serious illness, family death, pregnancy or conscription) are considered case by case, and cost US$100.
