If you are considering CFA Level III, then first of all our congratulations on passing CFA Level II, a huge achievement!
CFA Level III builds on the foundational knowledge from Levels I and II but shifts focus towards portfolio management, investment planning and wealth management strategies.
Whichever pathway you choose, the core content is the same.
CFA Level III Core Content
Portfolio Management concepts are central to all three pathways, covering 65-70% of the exam. These include Ethics, Asset Allocation, Portfolio Construction, Performance Measurement and Derivatives and Risk Management.
Pathway-Specific Content
This content accounts for 30 to 35% of the exam.
The Private Markets pathway covers private investments, the investment process, private equity, debt, real estate, infrastructure and special situations like leveraged finance and distressed assets.
The Private Wealth pathway focuses on wealth management, covering client relationships, investment planning, wealth preservation and estate planning for high-net-worth individuals.
The Portfolio Management pathway explores investment strategies in equity and fixed income, including index-based and active investing, portfolio construction and fixed-income yield curve and credit strategies.

The CFA Level III Curriculum consists of the following topics. Note that the topic bands are approximate, based on both item set and “structured response” (essay) questions across two exam sessions:

The first requirement to enrol in CFA Level III is to have passed CFA Level II, including completion of the Practical Skills Module.
You must also have either:
As for the earlier levels, you will need a valid passport for the actual CFA exam.
Although it is possible to take CFA Level I or Level II as an undergraduate (without the work experience), this option is not available for Level III. Note that you can enrol and study for Level III while still an undergrad, but the exam itself must be after graduation.
For route (2) the work experience and higher education cannot overlap, but you need 4,000 hours between them. Work experience must be paid (internships or family firm work is fine, provided it’s paid); the higher education can be in any area.
Once you have received a successful Level III result you may be eligible to apply for the CFA charter.
How to become a CFA charterholder
There are three requirements for becoming a CFA charterholder and getting those magical letters after your name.
Step 1: Pass the exams! This also includes completion of the Practical Skills Modules at each level.
Step 2: Gain the relevant work experience. You need at least 4,000 hours of work that is directly or indirectly involved in the investment decision-making process. Speak to us for more detailed guidance if in doubt. This is a much stricter requirement than the work experience route to registering for your CFA exam.
Step 3: Become a member of CFA Institute. This includes receiving professional references. The Quartic faculty is happy – indeed, privileged – to support candidates that we have been teaching.
