CCI Frequently Asked Questions

CCI Specific Questions

Who should enrol on this programme?

Climate issues are becoming ever more important for investors and the wider finance industry. If you have an interest in understanding the climate crisis and how investing decisions can make a difference, or if you wish to boost your career (or start your career) through climate knowledge, then this course provides an excellent foundation across the topic.

How much studying is involved?

The stated study time is around 140 hours, though this depends on many factors. If you already work in a climate-related field or in other areas of finance you may find that you need less time than this.

What’s the best approach to finding enough study hours?

At Quartic we speak to many of our candidates one-to-one regularly throughout their studying: without doubt, the candidates most likely to succeed are those that carve out a regular studying period every day, throughout the week. These need to be quality hours, but whether they are early morning, late evening or during the day will depend on your other commitments.

How do I balance study time with my hectic social life?

If you study for this exam for a couple of hours a day for a few months, this should be sufficient, without causing too much harm to your outside commitments. However, you need to take the studying seriously and if your calendar is completely full then you will need to make decisions on what gives way to studying.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements. You will come across many financial terms: although only a light knowledge is required, Quartic provides an additional “Finance Essentials” section to provide background on each of these concepts. You will need to be able to do some calculations in the exam: these are not too complex, but you cannot use your own calculator – just an onscreen app. (Don’t worry – we’ll show you how to do this.)

Are there any calculations in the exam?

Yes. The calculations in the exam are not too complex (e.g. you may need to compute a weighted average) but you cannot use your own calculator – just an onscreen app. (Don’t worry – we’ll show you how to do this.)

How long does the CCI programme take to complete?

With around 140 hours of study time expected, a couple of hours’ studying per day will enable you to complete the Certificate in Climate & Investing in a few months. Overall you should allow two to four months – we do not recommend spreading the work over a longer period, as you may find that earlier knowledge needs to be reviewed more thoroughly a second time.

What is the main difference between ESG and CCI?

Both ESG and CCI are graded as “RQF level 4” exams. Realistically, ESG takes few hours and covers all of environmental, social and governance issues. CCI typically takes a little longer to study and focuses strongly on the environmental aspects of ESG (i.e. the “E” and part of the “S”). Many candidates sit the ESG Certificate first and then move onto CCI, though this entirely depends on the extent to which these would be useful in your work.

Do I need to have much finance knowledge to enrol on the CCI?

You will come across many financial terms: although only a light knowledge is required, Quartic provides an additional “Finance Essentials” section to provide background on each of these concepts. You will need to be able to do some calculations in the exam: these are not too complex, but you cannot use your own calculator – just an onscreen app. (Don’t worry – we’ll show you how to do this.)

CCI General Questions

If I enrol now how long will I have access to the material?

Your Official Training Manual is available via your CFA UK login for 12 months. Quartic matches this, though we try to be flexible if you have extenuating circumstances. The 12 month access should be sufficient time for most candidates.

What happens if I fail my exam and need further access to the Quartic material/videos?

The Quartic materials are available to you for 12 months. If you are unsuccessful in your exam and resit within this window then the materials remain fully accessible to you. If you need to extend, we try to be flexible within reason, but there may be a charge for additional access. Note that 12 months should be more than sufficient for most candidates.

Is the Quartic book the same as the OTM?

No. Quartic will provide you with workbooks that contains our slides; you will also receive extensive online question banks and two full-length mock exams. The workbooks accompany Quartic videos that cover every topic and learning outcome in the CFA UK official training manual (OTM).

Once enrolled, how do I access my learning materials?

You will receive an email with your access details. Please check your junk mail as the emails can sometimes filter into there.

Can I download the videos/book?

We provide our materials in e-book or printed format. The e-books are designed to allow freehand annotations to help you to make notes and copy examples in your own handwriting. We do not permit the downloading of videos or books.

Can my company get a discount if we enrol more than one student?

Yes, we are very happy to arrange a discounted group booking – please get in touch. We can also discuss preferential corporate products and prices.

How does the free trial work?

When you request a free trial, you will be sent an email with your access details. This will allow you to login to the Quartic Online portal and access part of the course for free. You get two weeks’ access.

What are Quartic’s pass rates?

Quartic is a CFA Institute Prep Provider and is not permitted to publish pass rates. This said, we can assure you that the materials you receive from us will help you to succeed: candidates that follow our advice on studying will tend to be successful.

I am an international student and want to extend my visa. Can Quartic Help?

Quartic is no longer registered with UKBA to provide visas for international students.

How many hours of videos do you have?

Via our Quartic Online portal you will receive more than 15 hours of on-demand videos, covering all topics.

How many practice questions are there?

More than 600 questions plus 2 mocks with 100 questions per mock.

Do your prices include registration and exam fees?

No. Your exam registration must be paid directly to CFA UK. The Quartic fees include Quartic products only.

Exam related Questions

Does Quartic cover everything in the exam?

The Quartic slides, videos and question banks cover every learning outcome statement in the Official Training Manual (OTM). We know the exam well and have taken it ourselves: we use our judgement and experience to determine the required depth for each concept, but it is our intention to provide sufficient explanation to be able to answer virtually every exam question. The OTM is significantly longer than our slides and it is impractical for Quartic to achieve 100% coverage.

Can I defer the exam if I’m not ready to sit it?

You should only book the exam once you are ready to sit it, most likely in the final weeks of your revision. If you need to extend beyond 12 months then CFA UK will require a new registration fee.

If I fail the exam, how long before I can resit?

You can resit the exam as soon as you have received official notification that you were not successful. We would recommend waiting at least a few week before a resit to enable you to consolidate your knowledge further.

Can I sit the exam from home?

Yes there is a home proctoring option. Please note that the requirements are quite strict in terms of your surroundings, sound level (i.e. no disturbances) and having a reliable internet connection.

How do I book my exam?

Registering for the Certificate in Climate & Investing is a straightforward process. Start at https://www.cfauk.org/study/certificate-in-climate-and-investing/register-for-the-certificate-in-climate-investing and follow instructions.

Is the exam all multiple choice in format?

No, but it is mostly multiple-choice questions. There are some item sets or vignettes (case studies with 3 to 5 questions on), plus a few drag-and-drop and gap-fill style questions.

When is the exam?

The exam is on demand. You may attend a Pearson Vue exam centre (available in most UK towns and cities) or sit the exam at home with OnVUE Online Proctoring. You should book the exam at least a week or two before your intended date in order to secure the spot.

What pass mark do I need?

The pass mark is between 60 and 70%. Between 60 and 75% of candidates achieve this successfully.

Can my employer book the exam for me?

Yes they can.

Can Quartic book the exam for me?

This may be possible under some circumstances. Please speak to us to discuss it.
