ESG Frequently Asked Questions

ESG Specific Questions

What is the main difference between ESG and CCI?

Both ESG and CCI are “RQF level 4” exams. Realistically, ESG takes fewer hours and covers all of environmental, social and governance issues. CCI typically takes a little longer to study and focuses strongly on the environmental aspects of ESG (i.e. the “E” and part of the “S”). Many candidates sit the ESG Certificate first and then move onto CCI, though this entirely depends on the extent to which these would be useful in your work.

How long does the ESG program take to complete?

With around 130 hours of study time expected, a couple of hours’ studying per day will enable you to complete the ESG certificate in a few months. Overall you should allow two to four months – we do not recommend spreading the work over a longer period, as you may find that earlier knowledge needs to be reviewed more thoroughly a second time.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements. You will come across many financial terms: although only a light knowledge is required, Quartic provides an additional “Finance Essentials” section to provide background on each of these concepts.

How do I balance study time with my hectic social life?

Balancing study time with a hectic work, home, and social life requires effective time management and prioritisation. Start by creating a weekly schedule that includes dedicated study periods. Communicate your study commitments to those around you and seek their support in maintaining a quiet environment when you need to focus. Learn to say no to non-essential social engagements during your study periods and use breaks at work or home to review materials. Additionally, consider seeking assistance from family, friends or colleagues to share responsibilities, allowing you to carve out valuable study time without neglecting other aspects of your life.

What’s the best approach to finding enough study hours?

At Quartic we speak to many of our candidates one-to-one regularly throughout their studying: without doubt, the candidates most likely to succeed are those that carve out a regular studying period every day, every week. These need to be quality hours, but whether they are early morning, late evening or during the day will depend on your other commitments.

How much studying is involved?

The expected study time is 130 hours, though this depends on many factors. If you already work in an ESG-related field or finance you may find that you need less time than this.

Who should enrol on this programme?

ESG is becoming ever more important for investors and the wider finance industry. If you have an interest in environmental, social and governance issues, or wish to boost your career (or start your career) through ESG knowledge, then this course provides an excellent foundation across the topics. This certificate is for investment professionals aiming to integrate ESG factors into their roles. It’s suitable for front and back office staff, sales, wealth management, consulting and risk roles, as well as those interested in ESG issues.

ESG General Questions

How many practice questions are there?

More than 440 questions plus 2 mocks with 100 questions per mock.

What are Quartic’s pass rates?

Quartic is a CFA Institute Prep Provider and is not permitted to publish pass rates. This said, we can assure you that the materials you receive from us will help you to succeed, not only in your exams, but throughout your career.

How many hours of videos do you have?

More than 13 hours of videos.

I am an international student and want to extend my visa. Can Quartic Help?

Quartic is no longer registered with UKBA to provide visas for international students.

How does the free trial work?

When you request a free trial, you will be sent an email with your access details. This will allow you to login to the Quartic Online portal and access part of the course for free. You get two weeks access.

Can my company get a discount if we enrol more than one student?

Yes, we are very happy to arrange a discounted group booking – please get in touch. We can also discuss preferential corporate products and prices.

Can I download the videos/book?

We provide our materials in e-book or printed format. The e-books are designed to allow freehand annotations to help you to make notes and copy examples in your own handwriting. We do not permit the downloading of videos or books.

Once enrolled, how do I access my learning materials?

You will receive an email with your access details. Please check your junk mail as the emails can sometimes filter into there.

Is the Quartic book the same as the OTM?

No. Quartic will provide you with workbooks (and extensive online question banks and two full-length mock exams) that accompany videos covering every topic and learning outcome in the curriculum. With your CFA Institute ESG registration you will have access to the Learning Ecosystem or LES: this includes the underlying curriculum, question bank and other studying tools from CFA Institute.

If I enrol now how long will I have access to the material?

Your CFA Institute materials are available for six months. Quartic matches this, though we try to be flexible if you need to extend for up to a further six months.

What happens if I fail my exam and need further access to the Quartic material/videos?

The Quartic materials are available to you for 6 months. If you are unsuccessful in your exam and resit within this window then the materials remain fully accessible to you. If you need to extend, please get in touch. We try to be flexible within reason, but there may be a charge for additional access. Note that 6 months should be more than sufficient for most candidates

Do your prices include registration and exam fees?

No. Your exam registration must be paid directly to CFA Institute. The Quartic fees include Quartic products only.

How many practice questions are there?

Our CFA Level I candidates receive more than 3,500 exam-style questions from us, across a number of Education and Revision products. There are fewer questions at Levels II and III, but they are mostly in exam style – item set vignettes for Level II, item sets and essay questions for Level III.

Exam related Questions

When is the exam?

The exam is on demand. You may attend a Prometric exam centre (available in hundreds of towns and cities around the world) or sit the exam at home with online proctoring. You should book the exam at least a few weeks before your intended date in order to secure the spot.

Is the exam all multiple choice in format?

Yes. Your exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.

How do I book my exam?

Registering for the ESG Certificate is a straightforward process. Start at https://www.cfainstitute.org/en/programs/esg-investing and follow instructions.

Can I sit the exam from home?

Yes there is a home proctoring option. Please note that the requirements are quite strict in terms of your surroundings, sound level (i.e. no disturbances) and having a reliable internet connection.

If I fail the exam, how long before I can resit?

You can resit the exam as soon as you have received official notification that you were not successful. We would recommend waiting at least a few week before a resit to enable you to consolidate your knowledge further.

Can I defer the exam if I’m not ready to sit it?

You should only book the exam once you are ready to sit it. If you need to extend beyond six months then CFA Institute will require a new registration fee.

Does Quartic cover everything in the exam?

The Quartic slides, videos and question banks cover every learning outcome statement in the curriculum. We know the exam well and have taken it ourselves: we use our judgement and experience to determine the required depth for each concept, but it is our intention to provide sufficient explanation to be able to answer virtually every exam question. The underlying curriculum is significantly longer and it is impractical for Quartic to achieve 100% coverage.

What pass mark do I need?

The pass mark for the ESG examination is between 60% and 70%.
