The CFA Institute Sustainable Investing Certificate explores environmental, social and governance issues in the context of investment decision-making. What are the key issues? How do we identify them? And how do we then incorporate them into our investing?
The Sustainable Investing Certificate is designed for investment practitioners of all levels – you may be looking to start a career in finance or you may already be running a global multi-asset fund. You may also be advising on or distributing financial products, or working in risk management: the application of this qualification is broad indeed.

In April 2025 the Certificate in ESG Investing was renamed as the Sustainable Investing Certificate. At the time there was no impact on either the curriculum or the exam.

Quartic candidates for the CFA Institute Sustainable Investing Certificate receive all the resources, listed above, via the Quartic Online (or QO) portal.

There are no formal prerequisites to studying the CFA Institute Sustainable Investing Certificate.
A knowledge of the investment process is useful but not essential. You will also see accounting and mathematical terminology, but proficiency in these areas is not required. Quartic’s Finance Essentials, included in all packages for the Sustainable Investing Certificate, explains key terms that you may not be familiar with.
There are no calculations in the exam. Calculators are not permitted or, indeed, needed while you’re sitting the Certificate exam.
